The Townsend Farm, later the Cary
Farm comprised about 365 acres. It is not known who occupied it
between 1635 and 1663. In 1663, Samuel Townsend was tennant until his
death in 1704. Samuel Townsend of Winnisimmet occupied the Cary Farm
and his brother Thomas Townsend of Rumney Marsh occupied part of the
Vane allotment, later the Fenno Farm. Their holdings were separated
by Chelsea Creek. They were the sons of Thomas Townsend of Lynn.

an innkeeper at Winnisimmet. Abigail died on January 2, 1729 at age
87 years and 8 months. She is buried in Copp’s Hill Cemetary. They

Son of Samuel and Abigail Townsend was born in 1682. He had a twin
brother Isaac. He married Mary Eustace, daughter of William Eustace
on November 30, 1708. She died on January 28, 1718. He moved to Maine
and died in 1746.

Townsend was born in 1682. He married a daughter of Captain Edmund
Ranger, one of the witnesses of the Governor Bellingham will. he
bought property on Winter Street in Boston.

Son of Samuel and Abigail Townsend was born in 1668. He married
Elizabeth Waltham, daughter of Samuel Waltham and granddaughter of
Reverand William Waltham of Marblehead on March 22, 1695. He was
taxed in Rumney Marsh in 1701 and was chosen constable in 1702. In
1704 and 1707 he was chosen fenceviewer. He died on April 16, 1718 in
Lynn, Massachusetts.

Penn Townsend was born in 1652. He was colonel of a militia regiment,
commander of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company. selectman
and moderator of town meetings, deputy to the General Court, Speaker
of the House in 1696 and 1697, assistant for 27 years, Chief Justice
of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas for Suffolk County in
1718-1727. He died on August 21, 1727 at age 75 years 8 months.

Samuel Townsend was born about 1638. He joined the Boston church on
September 18, 1861 and was freeman in 1683. He married, Abigail, the
daughter of Samuel Davis who was an innkeeper at Winnisimmet. He held
various town offices and died on december 21, 1704. His gravestone is
in the Rumney Marsh Burial Ground in Revere. Abigail died on January
2, 1729 at age 87 years and 8 months. She is buried in Copp’s Hill
Cemetary. They had nine children, some of whose descendants have been
of note. Samuel born 1661, Jonathan born 1668, Solomon born 1676,
Elias born 1678, Abraham and twin brother Isaac born 1682, and Anna
born 1672.

Captain Gregory Sugars who in 1690 commanded the naval forces against
