John Yeamans lived in Saint James Parish, Westminster, England and in
Boston. He was the owner of Noddle’s Island where he had a home.On
May 6, 1720 he married Elizabeth Shrimpton who owned the Newgate Farm
at Rumney Marsh. She died of smallpox on December 4, 1721 at age
nineteen. John Yeamans conceived the idea of building a bridge from
Rumney Marsh to Boston and in 1727 petitioned the Town of Boston for
leave to construct such a bridge. The petition was granted but the
bridge wasn’t built until a hundred years later. In 1734 he bought
the land owned by Robert Temple. John Yeamans died in England about 1749.
Son of John and Elizabeth Yeamans was born on August 20, 1721 in
Boston. He married Matilda Gunthrop in Antigua. They had two
daughters and a son John, all of whom died at an early age. Another
son, Shute, died of consumption on his passage to America on June 9,
1774 at age 20. On March 19, 1757 he bought the land of Nathaniel
Hasey, 14 1/2 acres, for 128 pounds. Shute Shrimpton Yeamans died in
Richmond, England on September 10, 1789 at age 48.
Eleanor Yelland was the daughter of William H. and Mary Ann Yelland.
She died at age 13 months and 13 days on September 18, 1834. She is
burried at the Rumney Marsh Cemetary in Revere, Massachusetts.
