Bill Ash’s Lounge on Revere Beach is closing for good on October 31, according to an announcement circulated in the Revere 02151 Facebook group this weekend. The post said it was the official announcement from the bar. We have not yet reached the owners to confirm the date or the reason, and we will update this article when we do.

The reaction in the group was what you would expect for a bar that has been on the boulevard for decades: people who had not been in for years, people who went every week, people who remembered a drummer who played there. One regular wrote that it was never her favorite bar but that her friends were always there, which is as good a description of a neighborhood bar as any.
Revere Beach has lost most of the businesses that made it a destination in the last century, and the boulevard’s storefronts have been turning over as the towers go up along Ocean Avenue. A bar that survived the roller coaster, the ballroom, the bathhouses and the arcades is not a small thing to lose, and if the closing is tied to a sale of the building or a redevelopment, that is the story.
