Chelsea High School’s boys basketball team will play Revere at TD Garden on Saturday, January 9, 2027, at 8:30 p.m., in a game both programs are calling the Battle of Broadway. The game is part of the 14th annual Andrew James Lawson Foundation Invitational, a day of high school games at the Garden, according to announcements from both schools’ supporters shared in Chelsea and Revere Facebook groups this week.
400 tickets each
Tickets are $30. Each program has a goal of selling at least 400, and both are asking their communities for help. Schools that play in the invitational commit to selling 400 tickets, the Everett Independent reported when Everett played in it in 2023.
People who cannot go can still help. The Chelsea post asks supporters to buy a ticket and transfer it to the program, which will give it to a Chelsea student who wants to attend but cannot afford a ticket. Revere’s program is doing the same for its students. Tickets are sold through Ticketmaster using each school’s own link, which is posted in the teams’ announcements, so each sale counts toward that school’s goal.
“We want to pack TD Garden and give as many Chelsea students as possible the opportunity to experience it with us,” the Chelsea announcement says.
Who Andrew Lawson was
The invitational is named for Andrew James Lawson of Norwell, who had Down syndrome and died at 27 after a two-year fight with cancer. He attended Norwell’s public schools from pre-kindergarten through his high school graduation in 2008 and, the Everett Independent reported, benefited from inclusion in both academics and sports. “Andrew didn’t have stats and records,” his mother, Regina, told the Everett Independent in 2022. “Andrew’s accomplishments have a different kind of measurement, mostly in hugs, love and laughter.”
