Jose Luis Contreras Sr. of Revere, who played soccer for El Salvador’s national youth team and was still on the field in a Massachusetts over-60 league decades later, died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 13. He was 80. His funeral service was held September 22 at Buonfiglio Funeral Home in Revere.
He was born November 27, 1945, and grew up in El Salvador, where he took to soccer early. In Massachusetts he played in the Franklin 60+ Soccer League. He worked for more than 30 years as a print press operator at Ace Lon Corporation before retiring. His family remembered a proud dancer, a cook who shared his recipes with anyone who asked, and a storyteller who often laughed louder at his own jokes than his listeners did.
He leaves six children, Luis Alberto, Zoila Yvette, Delmy Margarita, Jose Luis Jr., Roberto Carlos and Isaac Gabriel, and 15 grandchildren.
