The deadline to register to vote in the November 3 state election is Saturday, October 24. Massachusetts closes registration 10 days before every election, and you cannot register at the polls. Two other public events fall in the same stretch: a question-and-answer session with Chelsea’s city manager on October 6, and Revere’s fall festival on October 3.
Register by October 24
The same deadline applies to registering for the first time, updating your address, or changing your party, according to the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s office. There are three ways to do it:
- Online: at the state’s online voter registration site, submitted by 11:59 p.m. on October 24.
- By mail: print, fill out and sign the mail-in form and send it to your local election office. It must be postmarked by October 24.
- In person: at your city or town’s local election office.
If you are registering in Massachusetts for the first time by mail, include a copy of identification that shows your name and address, or you may be asked for it the first time you vote. People who become U.S. citizens after October 24 can still register in person at their local election office until 4 p.m. on November 2, the day before the election, with proof that their naturalization ceremony was after the deadline.
If you moved since you last voted, check your registration first. The state’s lookup is at sec.state.ma.us/voterregistrationsearch.
Ask the city manager, October 6
City Manager Fidel Maltez will hold an “Ask Me Anything” session on Tuesday, October 6, at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall, 500 Broadway, according to the city’s event listing. It is billed under Chelsea Pa’Lante, the city’s master plan. The listing does not say what format the session will take or whether it will be streamed.
Parking minimums, September 30 and October 8
The city’s first community meeting on dropping parking minimums for new housing is this Wednesday, September 30, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at La Colaborativa, 63 Sixth Street. A second is October 8 with GreenRoots. Details are in our earlier story.
Revere Fall Festival, October 3
Revere’s annual Fall Festival is Saturday, October 3, from 1 to 6 p.m. at The Yard at Beachmont Square, 10 Suffolk Downs Boulevard, near the Beachmont Blue Line station, with live entertainment, activities and guest performers, according to the City of Revere.
