Richard David Hartigan, a Revere native who worked more than 40 years on the British Airways ground crew at Logan Airport and hosted poolside cookouts for decades at his home on True Street, died on September 17 at his daughter’s home in North Adams. He was 93. He will be buried with military honors after a Mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Revere on October 2.
He was born in Revere on August 28, 1933, to David and Nora (Clancy) Hartigan, went to Conception School and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1951. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. In 1958 he married Janet A. Middleton, and they settled in Revere; she died in April 2021. He was a member of Immaculate Conception parish all his life, liked sailing, and followed the New England teams, by his family’s account mostly when they were winning.
His four children are Richard of Ipswich, Patrick of Winthrop, Nora Sacco, at whose North Adams home he died, and her husband David, and Terence, who lives with his wife Kristin in Woodbury, New Jersey. The grandchildren are Garret, Casey and Teagan Hartigan; Matthew and Nicholas Sacco; Stephanie Killeen, with her husband Adam; Steven Cornell; and McKenzie Killeen. Janet died before him, and so did every one of his seven siblings: George, William, David, James, Teresa Motherwell, Catherine Martikke and Mary Rahilly.
Calling hours are Friday, October 2 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, at the corner of Beach Street and Winthrop Avenue in Revere, followed by the Mass at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors follows at 1:30 p.m. at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park.
