Carolyn Caruso, who raised her three daughters in Everett, died October 21. She was 68 and had lived most recently in Salem, after some years in Saugus.

She was born in Malden on December 11, 1957, the daughter of Thomas and Marjorie Quinlan. Her family describes a quick, dry sense of humor that could find something funny in any situation, and a woman who was never seen without her makeup and hair done just so.

Being a mother was the role she valued most. She made her home the place where the family gathered for the holidays, and when her granddaughters were born she became Nana, showing their pictures to anyone who would look. She loved shopping and decorating, summers on Cape Cod, dinners out with close friends, and the dogs she always had at her side, Honey among them. For the past 15 years she shared her life with Jim Campbell.

She leaves her daughters, Christina DiTrapano and her husband, Michael, of Melrose, and Michele Caruso and Melissa Caruso, both of Saugus; her granddaughters, Nina and Cami DiTrapano; Jim Campbell; her sister, Nancy Quinlan; Paul Caruso, the father of her daughters; her niece, Katie Summering, and Katie’s family; and other relatives and friends. Her sister Diane Summering died before her.
