Douglas H. “Doug” Goodwin of Woburn, who grew up in Revere and worked as a nurse for more than 30 years, died unexpectedly at home on October 16 after a long fight with kidney disease. He was 54.

He was born in Everett on July 5, 1972, to Linda M. (Chorlian) Goodwin Eilinsfeld and Leonard S. Goodwin. He was raised in Revere and graduated from Revere High School in 1990. Two years later he earned an associate’s degree in nursing at the Chelsea Soldiers’ Home. He then worked at hospitals, nursing homes and agencies around Boston until his illness forced him to retire in 2025.

He played the drums and loved music. He liked trips to Florida, the beach, long walks, the gym, cars, going out for breakfast and a cup of matcha, and taking his children to the movies. His family says his three children came before everything.

He leaves his children, Sophia C. Goodwin, Ava R. Goodwin and Douglas H. Goodwin Jr., all of Melrose; his mother, Linda, and her husband, Arthur, of Woburn; his brothers, Robert Goodwin and his wife, Kim, of Saugus, and James Goodwin and his wife, Jennifer, of Methuen; nieces Ashley, Jamie and Gabrielle Goodwin; and Cara Goodwin, his former wife. His father, Leonard, and his stepfather, Henry Mack, died before him.

Visiting hours were Wednesday, October 21, at the Vertuccio Smith & Vazza Beechwood Home for Funerals, 262 Beach St., Revere. His funeral service was set for Thursday, October 22, at 9 a.m. at the International Church of God Worship Center in Burlington, with burial at Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington. The family suggests donations to the National Kidney Foundation.
