Paul Rinaldi of Revere, who was once named volunteer of the year at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, died October 22 with his family around him. He was 80.
He was born in Boston on May 2, 1946, the son of Arthur and Rose (Pizzano) Rinaldi. He and his mother were especially close and looked out for each other throughout her life.
For many years he volunteered at Brigham and Women’s, greeting families and walking them to and from where they needed to go in the hospital. In 2005 the hospital chose him as volunteer of the year from among some 500 volunteers, and at the dinner in his honor its president called him the heart and soul of the place. His family remembers him as a kind, gentle man who was devoted to his niece and nephew and grateful for his brother’s support over a lifetime. He liked to follow the news and listen to his police scanner, and he loved dancing with his girlfriend, Janice.
He leaves his brother, Joseph Rinaldi of Danvers; his nephew, Jay Rinaldi, and Emily Smith of Danvers; his niece, Marissa LaVangie, and her husband, Matthew, of Beverly; and his great-nephews, Matthew and Parker LaVangie. His sister-in-law, Sharon (Smith) Rinaldi, died before him.
