Anthony Giachinta of Revere, an Army veteran and mechanical engineer who raised his family in Beachmont and stayed there the rest of his life, died at home on Wednesday, November 4, with his family around him. He was 94.

He was raised in Everett, the youngest of six children of Antonio and Carmela Giachinta, and was a member of the Everett High School class of 1950. The Army took him to France, where he served from 1952 to 1954 and left as a corporal.

In 1956 he married Joanne. The couple settled in Beachmont, brought up three children there and were married for 70 years.

His first trade was laying floors, work he did beside his father. He moved on to drafting, and in 1975 he completed an associate’s degree in mechanical engineering at Northeastern University. As an engineer he worked for Park Brothers and for Allen-Bradley. His family says he often told the younger generations that a person who loves the job never really works a day.

At home he was the one who repaired whatever broke. He skied in New Hampshire, cooked the holiday dinners, finished the crossword every day and looked after a long line of cats.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Anthony Giachinta, and daughter-in-law Jane; a daughter, Sharon Goodwin, and son-in-law John; five grandchildren, Nicholas and Meghan Goodwin, Rachel Pascucci, and Robert and Matthew Giachinta; and five great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, McKenna and Sawyer Goodwin, Noelle Pascucci and Anthony Scheufele. A son, Robert Giachinta, died before him. His siblings were Connie DeLuca, Bernice Barbero, Millie Salemi, Tom Giachinta and Mary Lalicata.

Visiting hours are Monday, November 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Paul Buonfiglio and Sons-Bruno Funeral Home, 128 Revere Street, Revere. The funeral Mass is Tuesday, November 10, at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Church, 320 Winthrop Street, Winthrop. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.

The family suggests memorial gifts to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in place of flowers.
