The above players represented Chelsea High on the football field in
1933. The games were hard fought from beginning to end. Frank Garvey
and William Kennelly were the coaches. When the season ended, the
gridsters were 4-6. Standing in the above photo are, from left to
right, John Malloy, Jerry Gold, Fred (last name unknown), Sol Wilner,
and Arigo LaTanzi. Sitting were Irving Burns, George Marderosian,
Duddy Lazim, Bill Blanchard (holding football), Jim Thornton, Bob
Kaplan and “Dodo” Duval.
Burns became an adminstrator in the Chelsea school system. Blanchard
went on to become a General in the U.S.A.F. “Dodo” Duval
proved to be an outstanding constable. Gold was employed at
Smithcraft Lighting. Wilner passed away during high school. LaTanzi
became the Superintendent of Schools in Rockland and Everett. Kaplan
became the owner of Newman’s Meatland, a Chelsea landmark for many
years. Lazim became a pharmacist.
