Armand Robert “Bob” Chinchillo, who was valedictorian and class president of Revere High School’s Class of 1960 and went on to MIT, died on September 26 at 83, one day short of his 84th birthday. He lived in North Reading. A visitation and prayer service will be held Friday, October 2, at Buonfiglio Funeral Home in Revere.
After Revere High he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at MIT and spent 40 years at Raytheon, retiring from there. He raised his family in Saugus and moved to North Reading in 1987. He also earned a black belt in karate, wrote a novel, ran half-marathons, and competed in masters track, where he was nationally ranked in the 400-meter sprint. Two weeks before he died, his family said, he finished building a treehouse in his backyard for his great-grandson. He kept flower gardens, loved talking politics and sports, and ran the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot every year with his son and a granddaughter.
He leaves Elaine, his wife of 62 years; his daughter, AnnBeth, and her partner, Ralph Paglucca; his son, Bob, and daughter-in-law, Stephanie; grandchildren Alexa Giannino and her partner, Gio Serrano, Cameron and Jillian; and a great-grandson, Seven.
Visiting hours are Friday, October 2, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Buonfiglio Funeral Home, 128 Revere Street, Revere, with a prayer service at 11. The family asks that donations go to the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at MIT.
