Chelsea will mark Veterans Day with two public ceremonies next week: one on Tuesday morning at the Massachusetts Veterans Home on Powderhorn Hill, and the city’s annual ceremony and lunch on Wednesday at the Clark Avenue Middle School. Both are open to the public.
Tuesday, November 10: Veterans Home ceremony
The Massachusetts Veterans Home at Chelsea will hold its Veterans Day ceremony at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10, in the Great Room on the first floor of the home, 100 Summit Avenue. The city shared the invitation this week.
Students from Chelsea High School will perform during the ceremony. The Jazz Band, the Concert Band and the Cantare singing group are all on the program, according to the announcement.

The city says the invitation is for local veterans, military members and their families, and that the ceremony is open to the public. The program includes live music, a buffet lunch, a missing man table presentation and remarks from elected officials.

The hill’s long history with veterans
The Veterans Home sits on ground that has housed veterans since 1881, when a hotel on Powderhorn Hill was dedicated as a Soldiers’ Home for Civil War veterans. That story is told in part 6 of our Chelsea History series.
