Lauri Jean Salemme of Revere, who spent much of her working life as a recovery specialist helping people through addiction, died on Monday, November 2. She was 48 and had lived in Revere all her life.

She was born in Malden on May 11, 1978, the daughter of William C. Salemme of Revere and the late Linda LaPointe. Her father and her grandmother, the late Norma Salemme, raised her in Revere, and she graduated from Revere High School.

Her family describes the recovery work as a calling rather than a job. She met people without judgment, they say, and was quick to offer a hand to anyone who needed one. Away from work she was known for laughter, for putting family ahead of everything else, and for the cats she kept and doted on.

Besides her father, she leaves a brother, William Salemme, and his wife, Carrieann, of Revere; a niece, Alexis, and a nephew, Brandon; a great-niece, Eliana, all of Revere; and two uncles, Victor Salemme of Standish, Maine, and Michael Salemme of Winthrop.

Memorial visiting hours are Tuesday, November 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Paul Buonfiglio and Sons-Bruno Funeral Home, 128 Revere Street, Revere.

In place of flowers, the family suggests a gift to a charity of the giver’s choice or to an animal rescue.
