In his bid for State Senate, progressive Democrat Michael Albano of Chelsea formally entered the race today. The 48-year-old small business owner is seeking to fill the seat left vacant by Anthony Galluccio. According to Albano, residents across Massachusetts are hungry for fresh leadership that can rebuild public trust in government institutions. “People are hurting and they’re frustrated,” “and we need new leaders to take the reins of government and move us in a new direction. I’m running for State Senate to offer that new leadership.” explained Albano.
Though Albano has never before sought elected office, he comes from a political family. His father Sal served as a Somerville State Senator between 1984 and 1990, establishing himself as a reform-minded voice pushing for progressive causes. “I learned from my father,” “that when you stand up for what you believe in and bring honesty and accountability to public service you can bring people together, restore their confidence and really move things in the right direction. We need that now more than ever, and I’m looking forward to this campaign. People need something to believe in to get involved.” Albano said.
The compressed timeline leading up to the April 13 Democratic Primary presents a significant challenge for someone new to running for office in such a geographically and demographically complex district—one that spans from Allston/Brighton through Revere and Saugus. Despite this obstacle, Albano remains confident. “I’m going to run this campaign in the same way I will be State Senator — I’m going to get out into the communities, bring people together, and listen and be accessible. I’m looking forward to making my case on the campaign trail.” he points out.
