Paul Nowicki, a former Chelsea City Council President who previously competed against Tim Flaherty during the 2007 special election for the Middlesex, Suffolk & Essex state senate position, has now thrown his support behind Flaherty’s campaign. The Committee to Elect Tim Flaherty made this endorsement public today. “It’s not often that running a political campaign against someone enhances your respect for them, but that’s exactly what happened with Tim Flaherty,” Nowicki stated. “During the 2007 campaign, I came to know Tim and was extremely impressed with his knowledge, skills, and character. He’s a person of tremendous integrity, and the best person for the job. Tim’s background as an Assistant District Attorney demonstrates his strong commitment to standing up for regular people and the middle class. He will make public safety a priority, and is a leader we can trust. I am very proud to endorse him for state senate.” As a 16-year veteran of the Chelsea City Council who held the presidency for four separate terms, Nowicki has maintained a strong commitment to youth sports in the community. His legislative work included drafting an anti-gang recruitment bill for Chelsea, which he promoted at the State House in collaboration with local law enforcement efforts aimed at curbing community violence. “I’m truly honored to receive Paul Nowicki’s endorsement,” Flaherty remarked. “I greatly admire the positive campaign he ran in 2007, and am proud to have him on my team this election. His help will be invaluable during the coming months as we listen to the concerns of voters across the district, and focus on critical issues such as preventing youth drug abuse, enhancing support for returning veterans, and improving public education in Massachusetts.” Flaherty brings eight years of experience as a Norfolk County prosecutor to the race. Originally from Cambridge, he currently operates a thriving private legal practice. The district encompasses Allston/Brighton, Cambridge, Chelsea, Charlestown, Everett, Revere, Saugus, and Somerville in the Middlesex, Suffolk & Essex senate representation area.
