Last Tuesday at 4:50 p.m., Chelsea Police responded to 110 Prescott Avenue following a call from the building’s landlord regarding a tenant disturbance. The landlord reported loud music and a drug odor emanating from one of the units. When the landlord went to address the noise complaint, he discovered the apartment door standing open with music blaring from inside. Officers who arrived at the scene confirmed the landlord’s observations. They attempted to get the attention of those inside by knocking on the open door and announcing their presence, though they noted the television was “very loud” by the officers. The doorway to the balcony was also open. In light of recent breaking and entering incidents in the area, the officers entered through the open door to ensure the safety of those inside and to make sure that the renters were not victimized. Once inside the doorway officers observed in plain view several pounds of marijuana in various sized packages and a large amount of cash. Officer’s immediately seized the drugs and cash. Following surveillance operations near the apartment, police arrested two individuals for Illegal Distribution of Class “D” and Conspiracy after verifying both were in control of the apartment. The two suspects—Hamza Salim age 27 and Faisal Boumehdi age 25 both of Chelsea—appeared in Chelsea District Court on last Wednesday. The seizure netted several pounds of marijuana valued at over $10,000 on the street and over $8,000.00 in U.S. currency.
