Saturday in Manchester, England will see Chelsea’s Johnny Ruiz, the world’s first Hispanic heavyweight boxing champion, facing off against David Haye, Britain’s heavyweight titleholder. The bout carries stakes for the world heavyweight championship. Those of us in Chelsea who have watched Johnny since his early days as a young fighter, and who have closely followed his boxing trajectory, are all hoping he achieves one of the remarkable victories he is fully capable of delivering. At this stage of his career, with limited opportunities ahead in the sport, this may well represent Johnny’s most significant fight. We extend our best wishes for Saturday’s bout. When he reclaims the title, we are confident Johnny will return to Chelsea in triumph and celebrate with the loyal supporters from his neighborhood who have known him throughout his life. Good luck, Johnny Ruiz. May the Quiet Man gets what he wants.
