Charles J. Umanita, an accomplished oil painter, died on May 7 following a short illness at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was 84. For the previous 16 years, he had made his home in Potomac, Maryland, though he had earlier lived in Chelsea, Malden and Peabody. Chelsea was his birthplace and the home of his parents, the late Anthony and Anna (Minutoli) Umanita. His education included attendance at local schools, and in his early 20’s he began exploring different artistic disciplines. His formal training in Fine Arts took place at Scott Carbee Art School in Boston and at Vesper George in Boston.
