Effective October 31, Chelsea Fire Chief Chuck Fothergill will be stepping down from his position. The announcement of Fothergill’s retirement caught both City Manager Jay Ash and members of the fire department off guard. Taking the helm in late 2007, Fothergill has now determined that the time is right for him to move on. His father, Herbert, previously served as Chelsea Fire Chief for three decades, running the department with an iron fist. According to City Manager Ash, no successor has yet been identified to replace Fothergill.
