The Chelsea High girls soccer team and Minuteman Regional played to a 1-1 draw on Friday, extending the Lady Red Devils’ tie streak to five in their first nine contests this season. Minuteman struck early in the opening half, but Chelsea’s defense prevented any further scoring. The squad answered back with an equalizer late in the first half when Sarah Borouis netted her second goal of the year. “The girls played a strong game right from the start,” stated head coach Jen Gulko. “Gabby Salazar had a fantastic game in the goal and Loren Ramos played a great game at midfield. Many of the new players to the team saw some field time and contributed to the tie.” Today (Thursday), Chelsea will welcome Minuteman back for a third matchup this season, hoping to secure victory after two previous ties against the Lady Minutemen. The team suffered a decisive 7-0 defeat to North Shore Tech this past Tuesday. “The girls had a difficult time finding their rhythm in the first half, but despite the score, they played a much better second half,” Gulko remarked. “Elsa Nu§ez played a great game at defense despite an ankle injury and Zuleima Castillo helped strengthen the defense as well. Despite the loss, the girls held their heads high and learned some valuable lessons from the defeat.” With a record of 1-3-5, Gulko’s team will battle Minuteman this afternoon before traveling to face Mystic Valley next Tuesday.
