The city experienced its 10th homicide this year when a 28-year-old Allston resident, Joaquin Aguilar, was fatally stabbed near the MBTA commuter rail station on Sixth Street during the weekend. The incident reverberated through Chelsea. According to Chelsea Police Captain Keith Houghton, authorities received notification around 7:12 p.m. on Saturday from a motorist who spotted a man lying in the roadway at the corner of Arlington and Sixth Streets. “The victim was unconscious and suffering from multiple stab wounds,” Houghton said. “He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for emergency surgery, but he died of his injuries Sunday morning,” Houghton added. Residents who emerged from nearby homes discovered Aguilar bleeding in the street, with blood visible on an adjacent vehicle, police reported. The neighborhood residents expressed shock, with most saying they had never seen such a violent incident occur in their immediate vicinity. Witnesses also reported hearing nothing—no cries for help, no disturbance of any kind. According to Houghton, police believe the actual stabbing occurred just a short distance from where Aguilar was discovered dying on the pavement. Investigators are pursuing both surveillance footage and forensic evidence that Houghton indicated would establish that the stabbing happened in this location.
