Another Snowstorm

Chelsea, Massachusetts

Another snowstorm is heading our way. With it will likely come a snow emergency and parking ban. The snow continues to accumulate, with piles growing ever higher. Navigating Chelsea’s steep, winding, narrow and congested streets becomes increasingly difficult. The relentless cold has taxed our heating systems and taken a toll on our finances. The winter of 2011 is shaping up to be among the harshest on record. Since the Blizzard of 1978, we have not experienced this much snow so early in the season. As January winds down and February approaches, there is little reason to expect conditions to improve. What can be done? In reality, nothing at all. The best approach is to accept the situation, recognizing that complaints will not alter what lies ahead—not until late March at the earliest. Once April comes around, these difficult months will fade into the past. Such is the experience of being a New Englander, and the Mother of all winters is what we face.
