Chelsea High’s boys basketball team wrapped up an outstanding championship regular season with a 57-54 victory against Revere in a non-league matchup last Wednesday. The Red Devils, who will display another Commonwealth Athletic Conference banner in the CHS gym, had lost their initial meeting with their former GBL opponent by approximately 20 points. But in this rematch, the contest unfolded quite differently as both squads engaged in intense back-and-forth play throughout, with neither able to establish a commanding advantage. Revere maintained narrow leads at halftime and the three-quarter mark, yet Chelsea remained close enough to strike. With roughly a minute remaining, Sammy Mojica—who delivered an outstanding performance with 21 points and was particularly dominant down the stretch—put Chelsea ahead with a basket. Following a defensive stop by Chelsea, Revere fouled Felix Crespo intentionally, and he responded by making two crucial free throws with approximately 30 seconds left, extending the lead to 57-54. Revere’s final three-point attempt caught the front rim and fell away. The Red Devils secured the rebound and ran out the clock. Beyond Mojica’s strong showing, Joseph Rivera contributed 14 points. Felix Crespo added nine points to the scoreboard, while Eli Ortiz chipped in eight. “It was a fast and exciting game by both teams,” said CHS head coach Jay Seigal. “We have a nice rivalry with Revere and both teams played hard.” The win gave the Red Devils a season record of 14-6, which should position Chelsea for a sixth or seventh seed in the Division 2 North sectional and likely a home game in the opening round. “Coming into the season we had some question marks,” noted Jay Seigal. “but I’ve been very pleased by the way this team has come together and played so well. We’ve had a great year and this has been a great group of kids.”
