State Representative Eugene O’Flaherty and State Auditor Suzanne Bump were among the attendees at O’Flaherty’s annual St. Patrick’s Day dinner, held last Friday night at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Charlestown. The John F. Kennedy Knights of Columbus Hall in Charlestown was filled to capacity for the 25th Annual Flatley Company St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Once again, Representative Gene O’Flaherty and the Flatleys orchestrated the event. The evening featured a traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner, followed by dancing and singing throughout the night. Andy Healy, a musician from Sligo, provided the music for the occasion. Chelsea resident Duke Bradley served as master of ceremonies. A substantial number of Chelsea residents participated in the festivities. What made the evening special, however, was the warm and expansive crowd, with attendees seeming to know one another. Notably absent was Tom Flatley, who passed away in 2008. Mr. Flatley had been a devoted friend of Charlestown and a passionate celebrant of St. Patrick’s Day and the fellowship it fostered. He was known for greeting guests as they entered. His son, along with approximately six members of the Flatley company and Gene O’Flaherty, served as hosts for the evening. Among those present were State Auditor Suzanne Bump, Boston City Councillor Sal LaMattina, and State Senator Sal DiDomenico of Chelsea.
