Chelsea’s American Dream story continues with the acceptance of Chelsea High School senior Jelena Ivanis to Harvard. The Eleanor Street resident, who has spent her entire K-12 education in Chelsea Schools, learned of her acceptance last week. Ivanis’s family immigrated to Chelsea from Croatia during the 1990s. Chelsea High School Principal Joe Mullaney noted that her parents have been deeply invested in their daughter’s education and that of her sister, viewing their schooling as paramount. Throughout her time in Chelsea’s public schools, Ivanis maintained a perfect record, never earning a grade lower than an A. Mullaney characterized her as bright, curious, and engaged with her community. She earned Student of the Year honors the previous year and represents a well-rounded student, according to Mullaney. Her Harvard acceptance reflects more than individual achievement—it represents the dedication of countless educators throughout the Chelsea School System working in concert. “Jelena shows what our students can do and of what can happen here and of what does happen here,” Mullaney stated proudly. “Jelena is a shining example but there are many others going on to fine schools and to four-year colleges who took advantage of great instruction, teachers who care and administrators who watch carefully the goings on in the public schools,” he continued. Jelena Ivanis’s acceptance to Harvard marks a remarkable accomplishment, a prize of exceptional distinction.
