By John Lynds For the Record Chelsea Police will participate alongside the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in the Second Annual Drug Take Back program this Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Chelsea Police Headquarters, according to Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes. The DEA is organizing a single-day nationwide effort in coordination with state and local law enforcement to collect potentially dangerous controlled substances from residences throughout the country. Through this national program, residents will have the chance to turn over pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement for safe destruction. Unused, expired, or unwanted controlled substances stored in homes contribute to the growing problem of pharmaceutical drug abuse and pose significant public health and safety concerns. On Saturday, members of the public are welcome to visit Chelsea Police Headquarters at 19 Park Street to drop off any medications they wish to have safely disposed of. Officers stationed in the police station lobby will accept these unwanted medications and ensure their destruction. “This nationwide one day program is aimed at removing unwanted harmful drugs from the home thus reducing the possible misuse of prescription drugs,” said Kyes. “The Chelsea Police Department will provide the public a safe and secure location for those who wish to remove these potential harmful drugs from their home quickly and safely”.
