Rose Marie DeGruttola
Worked for First National Stores
Rose Marie (Gallo) DeGruttola, who had lived in East Boston for many years, passed away on February 3 at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center in Revere. She was 91.
A native of East Boston, she graduated from East Boston High School in 1939. Early in her career, she worked as a stitcher in the Boston Garment District before spending several years as a baker at First National Stores in Somerville.
She is survived by her sister Marguerite A. Capone of Revere and is remembered as the devoted wife of the late Anthony D. DeGruttola, who passed away in April 1999. Her late siblings included John, Carmen, Frank and Ralph Gallo and Eleanor Tavella. She leaves behind nieces and nephews including Richard S. Capone and his wife Carol of Wilmington, John A. Capone and his wife Colleen of Manchester, NH, and Marianne LeBlanc and her husband Frederick of Melrose, as well as several other nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Services were held at the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) in Revere on Thursday, February 7 at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Revere at 10 a.m. Interment took place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances to Prospect House, 420 Reservoir Avenue, Revere, MA 02151, Attn: Patients’ Recreation Fund. Marie Jeanette Burke
Longtime AA Activist and Sponsor
Marie Jeanette Burke, a Chelsea resident, died on December 4 at the Katz Rehab Facility in Chelsea following a brief illness. She was 85.
Known as Jeanette, she was a loving stepmother and grandmother to Linda MacTaggart, Carol Rampino and Judy Miraldi and their families. She maintained an active presence in AA for 39 years, serving as a sponsor to many individuals seeking support.
The Goodrich Funeral Home in Lynn handled arrangements. She was laid to rest in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.

Irene Terchiak
Retired Nurse’s Aide and Lifelong Chelsea Resident
Irene E. (Hessenflow) Terchiak, who spent her entire life in Chelsea, died on January 31 at the Sutton Hill Center in North Andover, with her loving family at her side. She was 84.
Born in Chelsea to the late Jesse and Emma W. (Spracklin) Hessenflow, she worked as a retired nurse’s aide. Her career in caregiving spanned more than 25 years, during which she provided services at the Shawmut Nursing Home in Chelsea and at the Ocean View Nursing Center on Revere Beach Boulevard, which later became known as the Oak Island Skilled Nursing Center.
She is survived by her daughter Linda J. Baker of Winslow, Maine and her daughter Irene L. Rather and son-in-law Shawn A. of Lawrence. Her sister Lillian Tewksbury predeceased her. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Shawn A. Rather, Jr. and his wife Shiori of Portsmouth, NH and Corissa L. Rather of Lawrence, as well as one great grandson, Andra Rather.

Murry George Simon
Member of Revere Planning Board, Owned Ace Burglar and Fire Alarm, Active in Many Organizations
Murry George Simon passed away on January 30 following a prolonged illness. He was 88.
A Chelsea native who was born, raised and educated there, he completed his studies at Chelsea High School in 1943 before relocating to Revere, where he resided for more than 67 years.
During World War II, Simon worked as a civilian employee at the Charlestown Navy Yard. He later established and operated Ace Burglar and Fire Alarm in Revere and held a license as a real estate broker.
Simon’s involvement in community organizations was extensive. His affiliations included membership in the Masons, the Square and Compass Club, and service as Past President of the MA Alarm Assoc. He was a former member of the Brotherhood of Temple B’Nai Israel of Beachmont and Congregation Tifereth Israel, where he served on the Board of Directors as an officer. Additional roles included former Noble Grande of Kearsage Lodge of the Odd Fellows in Revere, Revere Ward 2 State Democratic Committee Delegate and Treasurer, and current member of the City of Revere Planning Board Committee.
He is survived by his beloved wife Jeanette “Janet” (Seltzerman) Simon; his devoted children Natalie Simon and Lois Simon Sauls and her husband Allen Sauls; his parents, the late Nathan Simon and the late Bessie (Fisher) Simon; his late brother Max Simon and late sister Frieda Bell; and his grandchildren Charlee Bianchini and Iladro Sauls.
Torf Funeral Chapel in Chelsea handled arrangements. Burial took place at Temple B’Nai Israel Cemetery in Everett.
