Chelsea’s artistic community has flourished considerably in recent times. Residents who have lived here for decades recall when theatrical entertainment was limited to school productions or watching the old Board of Aldermen proceedings broadcast on cable.
The situation is markedly different now. A genuine performing arts district has emerged in Chelsea. The Pearl Street gallery and the Apollinaire Theatre in Chelsea Square stand out as the area’s leading cultural venues, showcasing local photography and artwork alongside theatrical productions.
Recently, the Pearl Street Gallery hosted a photography exhibition featuring work from Cuba. The Apollinaire Theatre Company has scheduled two productions for April: “Luther” opens on April 5, followed by ‘pool (no water)’ beginning April 13.
Supporting the arts has become an increasingly common refrain. Visitors from surrounding areas regularly attend these performances and leave with favorable impressions. For Chelsea residents who have not yet visited the Apollinaire, the time to do so is now. This valuable community institution has worked hard to enhance Chelsea’s reputation and deserves the backing of local audiences.
