Mystic Brewery Holds Fundraiser for the Victims

Chelsea, Massachusetts

The release of Entropy, a 14 month barrel aged ale that craft beer enthusiasts had been anticipating, took place last Saturday at Mystic Brewery. Yet the celebratory event was overshadowed by the Boston Marathon bombing that had occurred the previous week.

Rather than proceed with a standard launch, Mystic Brewery transformed the Entropy release into a charitable effort benefiting those affected by the terrorist attack.

From noon until 7 p.m. on Saturday, patrons visited the brewery’s newly opened tasting room located at 174 Williams St. to purchase the sought-after brew. The $30 flor-sherry fermented bottles sold rapidly, with each customer able to buy a maximum of 6 bottles.

All proceeds from this initial batch of Entropy sales will go directly to attack victims. According to founder Bryan Greenhagen, We hope to raise up to $15,000 by donating the full tasting room generated profit on the release, said Mystic founder Bryan Greenhagen. We will announce the total raised after the final tally.

The brewery plans to distribute funds through vetted non-profit organizations. Greenhagen said donations will be made to qualified and vetted non-profits and the brewery will announce the specific benefactors as soon as they finish the evaluation process. He elaborated on the beer’s name: The word “Entropy” embodies one of our central philosophies: that life itself is the act of bringing order to chaos, he stated. We are very glad this release may bring some comfort to those most in need of it and in some small way help heal the wounds inflicted on our community.
