The Chelsea High School Class of 2013 will hold its commencement on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the school gymnasium, with two hundred fifty-five students expected to participate.
Valedictory honors go to Constance Beck-Treadway, who is heading to Yale University. Salutatory honors belong to Lejla Skokic, bound for Harvard College. Beck-Treadway and Skokic will deliver their respective addresses at the ceremony.
Principal Joseph Mullaney offered praise for the graduating class’s top performers. “Constance and Lejla have challenged themselves and taken 16 Advanced Placement courses at the school,” Mullaney stated. “Over the last three years, they’ve averaged almost three AP courses each. They’re outstanding students.”
Class president Maranatha Boyer will address the graduates during the ceremony. Senior Kelly Becerra, active in the CHS Chorus and Drama Club, will perform the National Anthem.
Diplomas will be distributed by Dr. Mary Bourque, superintendent of Chelsea schools and member of the Chelsea School Committee. Mullaney will announce each graduate’s name as diplomas are presented.
City Manager Jay Ash will represent the city with official remarks.
According to Mullaney, graduates will receive more than $200,000 in total scholarship awards.
