As summer draws to a close and Wednesday brought temperatures reaching 88 degrees, the start of the 2013-14 academic year is nearly here, despite the lingering heat that makes it easy to forget the school calendar approaches.
A major Back to School Celebration is taking place today from 2-5 p.m. at the Williams School, featuring complimentary food, beverages, and prizes. Organizers anticipate a substantial turnout of students and families.
This occasion offers an opportunity to recognize the achievements of the Chelsea school system. Members of the Chelsea High School Class of 2013 are preparing to enter college, with many heading to prestigious universities around the globe.
The Chelsea schools have consistently developed exceptional students who have achieved considerable success throughout their professional lives. Dr. Mary Bourque, superintendent of schools and a Class of 1977 graduate, exemplifies this tradition, as does city manager Jay Ash (Class of 1979), who earned recognition as the most outstanding scholar-athlete at Clark University and has been instrumental in developing the thriving city we know today. CHS Principal Joe Mullaney represents another fine product of the Chelsea school system.
