School’s Back: So Be Careful Driving on Our Streets

Chelsea, Massachusetts

Throughout the state, schools are either beginning classes now or will reopen within days. For drivers accustomed to unobstructed morning commutes during the summer months, this transition means renewed attention to the presence of children and school buses traveling on local streets.

The return to the academic calendar brings heightened risks for both vehicle operators and young pedestrians. As students resume their daily routines, they must readjust to navigating roadways alongside traffic during peak hours, when commuters rush to reach their destinations.

Drivers bear a particular responsibility during this period. Reducing speed near school zones and school buses is essential. We recognize that no driver wishes to be involved in a collision with a child, regardless of the circumstances.

We urge all motorists to exercise caution and heightened awareness of the children now sharing our roads.
