Chelsea already has numerous check cashing establishments and multi-service bodegas, and residents living along the Parkway made their opposition clear regarding another such business opening in their neighborhood.
During a Tuesday evening session, the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) firmly rejected an application from Demko Realty Trust seeking to open a check casher/multi-service store at 280 Parkway.
A notable turnout of neighbors attended the meeting to voice concerns about the proposal, and the ZBA’s decision reflected their objections.
In additional ZBA business:
•The Board approved a Special Permit allowing a developer to restore three residential units in an unused structure at 411 Broadway. The building’s first floor contains a cell phone store, while four apartments upstairs have remained vacant for an extended period.
Although the Planning Board endorsed the concept, it rejected the developer’s initial request for four units. Based on this feedback, developer Xiao Juan Ren submitted a revised ZBA application proposing three units instead.
• The Board granted approval for a new restaurant called ‘King of Wings’ to open at 181 Washington Ave.
