Red Devils await tourney seeding, foe The Chelsea High boys basketball team wrapped up its season Friday with a 66-62 loss to Greater Lowell, a result that secured an outright Large Division title in the Commonwealth Athletic Conference for the victors. Friday night’s game at the CHS gym featured Senior Night recognition for CHS seniors Oscar Sabillon, Jorge Ramos, Eric Martinez, Carlos Vega, Freddie Ortiz, and Abdala Bana, honoring their years with the boys program. The Red Devils struggled early, trailing 40-28 at halftime. According to CHS head coach Jay Seigal, “fblikebutton_button” “We came out flat-footed. We didn’t play with our usual defensive intensity and we gave up too many baskets.” The second half saw Chelsea perform more effectively, narrowing the deficit to just two points in the game’s final moments. Despite having chances to equalize, the Red Devils were undone by turnovers and missed opportunities down the stretch. Victor Corrales led Chelsea’s scoring with 15 points, while Sabillon and Eric Flores each contributed 14. Ortiz added five points, Albie Alicea and Nelson Vega scored four apiece, Eric Fernandez tallied three, and Carlos Vega added two. With a 10-10 final record, Seigal’s team now awaits notification regarding their seeding and opponent for the Division 2 North Sectional of the MIAA state basketball tournament.
