This week, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mary Bourque announced an important personnel decision, naming Priti Johari as ad interim principal at Chelsea High School for the 2014-15 school year.
Ms. Johari takes over the role previously held by Joseph Mullaney, who indicated in February his intention to step down.
Mr. Mullaney’s tenure as principal has been marked by strong administrative leadership and a commitment to student success. Under his guidance, Chelsea High has maintained a safe, enriching educational environment where students thrive academically. The school’s graduates have gained admission to some of the nation’s most prestigious universities.
Those familiar with Mr. Mullaney’s history as a standout basketball player at Chelsea High and North Adams State (Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts) recognize his competitive drive and understand how earnestly he has worked to ensure every student—from ninth grade through graduation—receives a quality academic experience.
Dr. Bourque faced a significant challenge in selecting a successor who could maintain the strong leadership Mr. Mullaney has provided and sustain the school’s momentum and positive impact on student achievement.
Priti Johari emerged as that choice. She brings an outstanding academic record and has demonstrated excellence during her three years serving as Chelsea High School redesign administrator.
