A new park in Chelsea, named the John Ruiz Park on Washington Avenue, is set to open in a few weeks. Already, a flat statue of the Quiet Man has been installed in the park. The statue depicts the former heavyweight champion as he appeared during his time as a champion. The park will also include play equipment, seating areas, and a water feature. City Manager Jay Ash stated that this is another step in the city’s efforts to increase open space. The park is considered the highlight of the ongoing Washington Avenue redevelopment project, which has been underway for the past two years.
