Bunker Hill Community College’s Workforce Development Center has secured a $150,000 grant through the Commonwealth Corporation’s Regional Training Capacity Pilot Program.
Using these funds, the College will launch the Pathway to Success in the Food Industry program, which features contextualized workplace English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses designed specifically for the food industry. Partner employers in Chelsea, Everett, Lynn, Malden and Revere will have access to multiple levels of ESOL instruction tailored for their non-native English-speaking employees.
The Pathway to Success in the Food Industry program is designed to boost production line and kitchen efficiency while minimizing mistakes, strengthen worker compliance with safety requirements, encourage line workers and restaurant workers to contribute ideas for improving work procedures, and create more opportunities for internal advancement.
Supporting workforce development across Massachusetts, the Commonwealth Corporation invests in innovative collaborations between industry, educational institutions and workforce development organizations to enhance the skills of young people and adults throughout the state.
A Workforce Training Fund grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, provides the funding for this initiative. The Commonwealth Corporation manages the administration of the grant program.
