Wheelock Celebrates Chelsea Scholar

Chelsea, Massachusetts

Wheelock College will host a Passion for Action Leadership Award Reception on Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 6-9 p.m. at the Wheelock College Brookline Campus to honor Carishmar Moore, a Chelsea resident and member of the Wheelock Class of 2018, alongside 16 other Passion for Action Scholars. The reception will showcase the social entrepreneurship initiatives of the scholarship recipients through a panel discussion, individual presentations, and networking opportunities. Colonel Douglas Wheelock, NASA Astronaut, will deliver the keynote address.

The Passion for Action Scholarship Program at Wheelock College provides four-year scholarships to incoming freshmen from the Greater Boston area who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to community service and civic engagement.

A graduate of the Commonwealth School in Boston, Moore has dedicated herself to work with children. During her high school years, she volunteered at Excel Charter School and Beacon Academy while serving on her school’s Diversity Committee. As a key contributor to the committee, Moore represented Commonwealth School at the national Student Diversity Leadership Conference and helped facilitate important discussions about race and class within her school community. Through the Amigos de las Américas program, Moore traveled to Mexico to work with young people on healthy living and intercultural understanding—an experience she found transformative.

Moore is currently pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education at Wheelock College and aspires to establish and operate her own child care center.
