ARSON INVESTIGATION ON NORMANDY ROAD
Multiple calls came into Chelsea 911 last Thursday evening reporting a fire at 22 Normandy Rd. Capt. Thompson commanded Chelsea Engine 1 upon arrival and immediately reported smoke emanating from the first floor, with flames visible in the kitchen. Before the blaze could spread upward, firefighters quickly deployed a line and extinguished it. Due to Ladder Truck being unavailable, mutual aid was requested from both Revere and Everett, each sending a ladder company to assist. After suppression efforts, responders discovered a gas container near the fire’s origin and safely removed it. Fire Prevention was called to the scene by Deputy Zalewski.
Damage remained confined to the kitchen while the investigation continues. One resident received treatment from Cataldo Ambulance for injuries of undetermined nature. Pictured above is Firefighter Brian Swift at the Normandy Road building with a hose line.
STABBING ON CHESTER
An attack on Chester Avenue near Shawmut Street is being investigated by Chelsea Detectives following an incident on Tuesday, May 26, at 8:26 p.m. A 17 year old male victim sustained two stab wounds to the upper body and was discovered by officers at 58 Bellingham St. According to the victim’s account, he and a companion were assaulted by two young males without provocation while on Chester Avenue. The companion fled and has not been located. The victim managed to reach Bellingham Street where a family member summoned emergency services. Massachusetts General Hospital received the victim, who remains in stable condition.
Investigation by Chelsea Detectives remains ongoing.
ANOTHER VICTIM IN CRITICAL AFTER TOBIN JUMP
After reports of a person jumping from an upper level of the Tobin Bridge, Chelsea Fire and Police converged on the Chelsea Yacht Club Wednesday morning. Responders quickly removed the victim from the water and stabilized him on scene with assistance from Cataldo Ambulance. Mass General Hospital was the destination for transport with the victim suffering serious injuries.
Both Chelsea and State Police continue their investigation.
SHOOTING UNDER INVESTIGATION ON TUDOR STREET
A May 25 shooting of a 17-year-old Chelsea man on Tudor Street is being jointly investigated by Chelsea Police, who maintain primary jurisdiction, and State Police detectives assigned to the Suffolk DA’s office. Shortly before midnight on May 25, the victim was shot near 46 Tudor St. and sustained life-threatening injuries requiring transport to Massachusetts General Hospital. The victim has survived, and to date no arrests have been made as the active investigation proceeds. State Police Crime Scene Services documented the scene photographically, while State Police Ballistics Section troopers collected evidence.
Investigators are exploring whether gang involvement played a role in the shooting.
DIFFERENT KIND OF MUTUAL AID
For nearly 60 days, the Chelsea Fire Department has publicly highlighted its out-of-service Ladder 2 truck, and this advocacy has sparked a different form of mutual aid. Unknown Chelsea residents have initiated a petition, collecting signatures at the Market Basket and throughout the City to express their frustration regarding CFD staffing and equipment shortages.
The petition calls for replacement of Ladder 2 and demands increased staffing levels for the Chelsea Fire Department.
SHERIFF TOMPKINS, DEPARTMENT WARN ABOUT TELEPHONE SCAM
A telephone scam is being reported by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, in which someone impersonates a Civil Process Division employee.
Callers claim to represent the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department and tell targets they missed jury duty, threatening arrest and jail unless they pay immediately. Victims are instructed to buy a prepaid credit card and relay the number by phone. To increase credibility, perpetrators direct victims to deliver the card in person to 132 Portland Street, the official Civil Process Division address.

Citizens receiving such calls are urged by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department not to share personal information and to contact their local law enforcement immediately. The Department requests that calls be reported to the Investigative Division (SID) at (617) 704-6544.
