SEVERAL CAR ACCIDENTS KEEP POLICE, FIRE BUSY
This past week, Chelsea Fire and Police responded to multiple motor vehicle accidents throughout the city.
A collision occurred Thursday evening, June 9, near the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Cottage Street. Witnesses reported that a vehicle heading north on Eastern Avenue attempted a left turn onto Cottage Street when it was struck by an oncoming vehicle traveling south. The impact caused substantial damage to both vehicles and resulted in a telephone pole being struck. One operator was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and both vehicles required towing from the scene.
Friday morning, June 10, brought another accident when a Tractor Trailer turning from Central Avenue onto Highland Street collided with a parked vehicle belonging to Ventura Taxi. The mini van became locked onto the truck’s rear bumper, creating significant traffic congestion while Todisco Towing worked to separate the vehicles. No injuries were reported in this incident.
On Sunday afternoon, June 12, Chelsea Fire and Police were called to 221 Webster Ave. for a multiple car accident involving airbag deployment. Firefighters from E3/L2, commanded by Act. Capt. Rogers, found a two-vehicle collision with multiple passengers suffering non-life-threatening head and neck injuries. These passengers were transported to the hospital.
Chelsea Police continue investigating the causes of these accidents.
SHOTS FIRED ON WASHINGTON AVE
Officers responded to 156 Washington Ave. on June 4 at approximately 1:14 a.m. following a report of shots fired. Dispatchers informed responding officers that a witness had seen a Hispanic male wearing a white t-shirt and camouflage shorts running down Washington Avenue toward Bloomingdale Street while carrying a black handgun.
Officers immediately searched the area for suspects and victims. During their search, officers reviewed video footage from a nearby store that provided crucial evidence. Based on this video evidence and their investigation, officers made an arrest. A firearm was recovered subsequently.
Jesus Perez, 19, of 37 Suffolk Ave., was charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, assault and battery attempt with a firearm, disorderly conduct, carrying a loaded firearm without a permit and possession of ammunition without a permit.
VICTIM TURNS TO SUSPECT
Officers responded to 583 Broadway on May 31 for a reported home invasion. The victim had not contacted police directly but instead ran to a nearby store, fearing he may have been shot. Upon arrival, officers learned from the reluctant victim that two armed males had entered his home while he was in his bedroom. A struggle ensued with the two unidentified suspects, during which the victim was pistol whipped, sustaining a facial laceration. The victim reported that the suspects fired two rounds, though neither struck him.
Gary Desir, 30, of 583 Broadway, was charged with cocaine trafficking and possession of a Class B drug.
HEROIN BUST
Members of the Chelsea Police Drug Unit established surveillance around 170 Revere Beach Parkway on June 1 at approximately 5 p.m., responding to multiple complaints regarding illicit drug activities in the area.
While stationed in an unmarked vehicle in the Metro Credit Union parking lot, detectives observed a drug transaction between two vehicles. Both vehicles were stopped as a result, leading to arrests and the seizure of narcotics.
Alexis Rodriguez, 32, of Lynn, was charged with distribution of a Class A drug, conspiracy and four warrants.
Dana Memory, 28, of Somerville, was charged with distribution of a Class A drug and conspiracy.
Kelvin Veras, 26, of 120 Central Ave., was charged with distribution of a Class A drug and conspiracy.
THREATENS BAR PATRONS WITH BB GUN
Officers were dispatched to Las Papusas Restaurant at 92 Washington Ave. on Friday, June 3, in response to a report of a male with a handgun threatening people in the area. Based on witness descriptions, officers detained a suspect. Witnesses stated that the male had approached them in front of the bar and lifted his waistband to reveal what appeared to be a black handgun, then made threatening statements toward them.
Officers detained and searched the suspect’s vehicle, recovering a black BB gun. The suspect was placed under arrest.
Jose Nolasco, 26, of Everett, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and threatening to commit a crime.
