John Magazzu
Lifelong Chelsea resident
On Monday morning, July 18, John R. Magazzu, who had lived in Chelsea his entire life, died at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 80 years old.
A Chelsea native and son of the late Domenick and Loretta (DeFloria) Magazzu, John spent his career operating multiple dry cleaning establishments in the Chelsea and Everett area. Following his son’s illness, he retired during the early 1990s. In his retirement years, John found pleasure in spending time with friends over coffee and conversation. A devoted car enthusiast, he assisted relatives and acquaintances with vehicle registration paperwork, car purchases, and maintenance work. Those who knew him will remember him with deep affection.
Surviving John are his dear friend Lisa Santarpio and her daughter Alycia Santarpio of Chelsea, along with numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine M. (Savignano) Magazzu and his son John D. Magazzu.
The funeral service took place at Carafa Family Funeral Home, 389 Washington Ave., Chelsea on Friday, July 22 at 11 a.m., with visiting hours from 9 to 11 a.m. Following the service, entombment occurred at Sheffield Mausoleum in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Marie O’Regan
Former Blinstrub’s waitress and coach of St. Rose Girls Basketball Team in the 50’s
Marie E. (Fay) O’Regan died Thursday afternoon, July 14, while under care at Lighthouse Nursing Care Center in Revere. Her passing followed a recent health decline stemming from a mild stroke sustained several weeks prior. She was 91 years old.
Born in Cambridge to the late John A. and Mildred L. (Hayes) Fay, Marie grew up in Chelsea and completed her education at St. Rose parochial and high schools. She married Harold J. O’Regan and established their home in Everett, where she had lived for 55 years.
For many years, Marie worked as a waitress at Blinstrub’s, where she served numerous prominent Boston figures. During the mid-1950s, she returned to St. Rose as a coach for the girls’ basketball team. Following her husband’s death in 1973, Marie devoted herself to caring for her mother and raising her young son. Those who knew her remember her as a strong, caring presence devoted to her family and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by three brothers: the late John E. Fay, William F. Fay, and Robert C. Fay. Her son and daughter-in-law, John F. Browning and Michelle of Everett, survive her, as does her granddaughter Gianna Browning. She is also survived by her sister Nancy J. Glennon of Amherst, NH, and siblings Albert J. Fay of Peabody and Donna J. Girard of Wareham, along with numerous nieces and nephews. The Frank A. Welsh & Sons Funeral Home in Chelsea handled arrangements, with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.

John Francis Morton
Retired Chelsea City Yard Foreman, third longest active member of Chelsea City Square Association
On Tuesday, July 12, John Francis Morton passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a brief health decline related to his advanced age. He was 91 years old.
Raised in Chelsea as one of five children born to the late John W. Morton and Anastasia E. (Dunn) Morton, John received his early education at Shurtleff School and went on to graduate from Chelsea High School. During World War II, he served in the US Navy and received an honorable discharge in 1946 before returning to Chelsea. For many years, he worked with the City of Chelsea Department of Public Works, serving as City Yard Foreman before his retirement. John was a devoted parishioner at St. Rose Church in Chelsea, where he served as a weekly usher for many years. He held membership in the Cary Square Association in Chelsea, where he was both the third longest active member and the oldest non-charter member. He frequently served the club as bartender. John was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Joseph W., Edward E., and Lawrence G. Morton, as well as Gladys M. Cappiello. He leaves behind several nieces and nephews and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
In accordance with John’s wishes, funeral services were held privately. Friends are invited to honor his memory in their own personal ways. The Frank A. Welsh & Sons Funeral Home in Chelsea managed the arrangements.
