On Sunday morning, Sept. 25, Admiral’s Hill became a hub of activity as residents from across Massachusetts gathered for the 8th annual ALS and MS Walk for Living.
The Leonard Florence Center for Living, which the fundraiser supports, delivers state-of-the-art independent living for ALS patients in a caring setting with specialized staff. This year’s walk honored Bill and Sharon Stein, significant donors to the ALS residences.
“Thanks to the employees who dedicate so much of their time,” remarked Betsy Mullen, COO of the Chelsea Jewish Foundation. “They give 100 percent and that inspires me.”
The 8th edition set new records, drawing the largest crowd in the event’s history and generating $125,000 in fundraising. Matt Siegel, the well-known host of ‘Matty in the Morning,’ served as emcee for the day’s festivities.
“This guy is a real hero,” Siegel announced, acknowledging Steve Saling, an ALS patient who was instrumental in the design of the residences. The Leonard Florence Center parking lot filled with family, friends, and residents wearing their walk shirts, creating an atmosphere of encouragement. A BBQ catered by Chili’s followed the walk route. Supporting the event as corporate sponsors were: Donoghue, Barrett & Singal, Lundgren Management (AHOA), M & T Bank, Kayem Foods Incorporated, ShiftGear, CliftonLarsonAllen LLP, A1 Lighting Service Company, Genzyme and Eastern Salt.
City Manager Tom Ambrosino expressed his gratitude, stating, “Thank you to everyone here today.” “Without you, this wouldn’t be possible.”
