Pile driving represents a standard construction method throughout the Boston area, yet the 560 piles hammered into the ground at the UDR project on Harrison Avenue near the Ink Block during the previous summer, along with additional piles driven by the Seneca at Ink Block, continue to be a topic of concern as fall arrives.
At meetings of the New York Streets Neighborhood Association (NYSA), a frequent topic has become whether developers will employ pile driving in their projects. Should the answer be affirmative, the follow-up inquiry typically concerns the quantity of piles that will be necessary.
“It was a lot all at once,” Kristin Phelan, who serves as president of NYSA, stated. “It’s over now though.”
For the NYSA membership, developers who can demonstrate that their projects will not require pilings certainly have an advantage.
