The Chelsea Collaborative will host an event honoring the cherished Latin American custom of ‘Las Pasadas’ on Dec. 20 between 4-7 p.m. During this time, marchers will move through Chelsea’s streets while singing, demonstrating solidarity with immigrants and refugees throughout the community.
The ‘Las Pasadas’ tradition draws from a Biblical narrative depicting Mary and Joseph’s dangerous flight as they sought refuge from persecution.
According to those organizing the Collaborative’s event, the tradition provides an ideal opportunity to highlight and honor the resilience of Chelsea’s immigrant and refugee populations.
Participants planning to join the march should arrive at the Chelsea Police Station by 3:45 p.m.
From there, the group will travel through the streets toward City Hall, singing carols and chants along the way. The procession is expected to reach City Hall around 4:30 p.m.
At 5 p.m., participants will head to the Collaborative’s location at 318 Broadway, where a community celebration featuring song, prayer, and fellowship will take place.
