POLICE EXAM SEMINAR
Chelsea and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Human Resources Division are jointly sponsoring a 2017 Police Exam recruitment and orientation seminar. The Williams School Band Room will host the event on Thursday, February 2, from 6-8 p.m.
Attendees will learn about the exam process and the duties involved in police work from seminar representatives. The Chelsea Police Department will have officers present to explain the appointment process, academy training requirements, and to respond to questions regarding personnel matters including salary and benefits.
The Test Orientation Guide will be reviewed by Human Resources Division staff during the session. Prospective applicants are encouraged to download it from:

KNIFE BRANDISHED AT SALVATION ARMY EMPLOYEE
On Jan. 11 at 1 p.m., officers patrolling Bellingham Square were flagged down by a Salvation Army employee working at 456 Broadway. The employee had confronted a shoplifter at the store’s front entrance, at which point the suspect raised his shirt to reveal a knife secured in his waistband and then fled the area.
Officers later found the suspect waiting at a bus stop on Hawthorne Street and took him into custody. The knife was recovered from him during the arrest.
Juan Montes, 42, of 115 Washington Ave., was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.
HIT AND RUN SUSPECT APPREHENDED
Officers responded on Jan. 13 at 11:43 p.m. to a motor vehicle accident at Central Avenue and Eastern Avenue. One vehicle had fled the scene but was being pursued by the other driver involved in the collision. An officer spotted the fleeing vehicle turning left onto the Meridian Street Bridge at the intersection of Pearl and Williams Street and stopped it there. According to the hit and run victim, the suspect vehicle nearly struck them as it sped away after they had exited their car to assess the damage.
Carlos Ramos, 20, of East Boston, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (car) and leaving the scene of property damage.
YOU CANE’T DO THAT
While patrolling Bellingham Square on Jan. 14 at 11:30 a.m., an officer observed two males in a dispute on the bus benches. As the officer approached, the suspect grabbed a cane from the victim and struck the victim in the head with it.
Following a brief struggle, the suspect was taken into custody.
Nicole Pizzi, 35, of East Boston, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a person over 60 and resisting arrest.
