This week’s major snowstorm proved unwelcome despite the relatively mild winter we’ve experienced. By the time mid-March arrives, most of us are eager to leave winter’s gloom behind and welcome the arrival of spring.
Of course, March is known for entering like a lion. As residents of New England, we’re accustomed to whatever conditions Mother Nature sends our way, and we shouldn’t be caught off guard by substantial snowfall in the days following March 1.
Nonetheless, once the calendar page turns to March, optimism about leaving winter behind tends to take hold. A significant winter storm that arrives after we’ve already begun hoping for spring can be disappointing—even for those among us who genuinely appreciate winter weather and actually enjoy the work of shoveling snow.
Spring will eventually arrive, though it may take longer than we anticipated.
