POLICE HOPE TO RETURN LOST MONEY
A wallet containing cash has been recovered by Chelsea Police after being turned in Sunday, July 16 at the police station. The item was discovered on July 3 in the vicinity of the United States Post Office but contained no identification documents. Those who believe the wallet belongs to them should contact Chelsea Police at (617) 466-4874, though they must provide both the exact cash amount and a description of the wallet itself to claim it.
Massachusetts General law stipulates that whoever delivered the wallet to police will receive its contents on July 16, 2018, or after one year has elapsed, whichever comes first.
WINTHROP MAN ARRESTED FOR ROAD RAGE, HIT VICTIMS
A road rage incident unfolded on the Chelsea Street Bridge on July 10 around 7:15 p.m., resulting in a male driver striking two female victims with his truck. EMS and Chelsea Fire responded to treat both women for injuries that were not life-threatening. Following the issuance of a BOLO, officers apprehended the suspect in Winthrop.
Joseph Ferreira, age 54 from Dorchester, faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon as well as assault and battery.
TRIED TO RUN OVER POLICE
Officers spotted a Nunez Livery vehicle traveling down Shurtleff Street on July 13 at 1:53 p.m., a roadway that had been closed for construction work. The vehicle was pulled over by responding officers.
The operator accelerated toward the officers near 500 Broadway following a brief interaction, forcing them to leap aside to avoid impact. He abandoned the vehicle on Library Street, where officers caught him after a short foot chase.
Edwin Nunez, 38, residing in East Boston, was charged with operating a vehicle with a suspended license, failing to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.
MOPED LAW INVOKED
A Forsyth Street resident may have been among the first to be charged under the newly enacted moped ordinance.
On July 11 at 4:28 p.m., a traffic stop near 45 Washington Ave. led to the arrest of a woman operating a moped that had been reported stolen from Cambridge on September 13, 2016.
Shannon Jette, age 30 of 10 Forsyth St., was charged with receiving stolen property over $250 and two moped violations.
