Chelsea is undertaking extensive roadway and utility improvements during the summer and fall months. The work encompasses street paving, sidewalk enhancements, and associated water, sewer and drainage upgrades. Funding for these initiatives comes from the City’s Capital Improvement Funds and state Chapter 90 allocations.
- Tudor/Lawrence/Clark/Crescent — A complete reconstruction project involving water, sewer and drainage infrastructure replacement, along with new streets and sidewalks in the area surrounding New Clark Avenue Middle School. Work is currently underway with an anticipated completion date by the end of Calendar Year 2017. The next Abutters Meeting is scheduled for Wed. July 12 at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.
- Shurtleff St. – Complete reconstruction of water, sewer and drainage infrastructure plus new street and sidewalk improvements on Shurtleff Street between Broadway and Congress Avenue. Construction has recently started. An initial abutters meeting for this project is set for today, Thurs. July 6 at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.
- Garfield Ave – Sidewalk work in isolated areas has been finished. Roadway milling is complete, with remaining roadway work targeted for mid-July.
- Suffolk Street – Sidewalk improvements are done. Roadwork is planned for mid-July.
- Lynn Street Extension — Sidewalk work will start in early July, with roadwork also slated for mid-July.
- Lower Broadway — Sidewalk improvements begin mid-July; roadwork is scheduled for late summer.
- Locke Street — Sidewalk work will start in mid-August, followed by roadwork in late summer.
- Beacon Place/High St./Pine St./Howell Ct. – State Chapter 90 sidewalk work may occur in the Fall, with paving anticipated for spring of 2018.
- Woodlawn/Winthrop/Hysil/Meadow – State Chapter 90 sidewalk work may occur in the Fall, with paving anticipated for spring of 2018.
- Hawthorn Street Road / sidewalks — Sidewalk work will begin in June of 2018 and continue throughout the summer, followed by roadway repaving.
- Everett Avenue Reconstruction — This comprehensive project involves complete reconstruction of water, sewer, drainage and related infrastructure on Everett Avenue from Carter Street to Rt. 16. The scope includes full depth roadway reconstruction, complete sidewalk and crossing reconstruction, street tree installation, and replacement of traffic signalization equipment at the Carter Street and Everett Avenue intersection. Construction is expected to begin in the Fall of 2017.
